Profil
Brněnské komunikace a.s. was founded in 1995 as a joint-stock company, with the Statutory City of Brno as its sole shareholder. It primarily provides engineering services for transport and civil structures, project design, and property law preparation for planned constructions. It also processes traffic forecasts, plans, and models.
In the city of Brno, it manages and maintains traffic lights at intersections, traffic signs, and oversees the condition of roads and transport structures, including tunnels. It is also authorized to organize stationary traffic. An inseparable part of its wide range of activities includes geodetic work, winter and summer road maintenance, and central traffic management in the city of Brno.
The municipal company Brněnské komunikace a.s. (BKOM) will present some of its smart solutions used in its operations. It boasts highly specialized workplaces and operates several applications that offer Brno citizens more information and comfort in their daily lives.
BKOM Cleaning Application
This application informs citizens about block street cleaning in Brno, making it easier for them to navigate during these operations. The goal is to reduce the number of charged manipulations or towing of vehicles not moved from cleaned areas within the specified times. Information can also be obtained from the web application at https://cisteni.bkom.cz/cs or by using the free mobile application available for iOS and Android smart devices, which offers a more convenient user experience than the classic website.
Brňáci pro Brno (BPB) Application
This application offers city residents an effective way to report defects on equipment, objects, and communication areas managed or owned by entities of the BPB TEAM, which are municipal companies. This allows people to actively participate in improving life in Brno. Owners of iOS or Android smart mobile devices can use the application, which is also available for free download. However, defects can also be reported via the web application at https://www.brnaciprobrno.cz. The application was already awarded in the national "Smart Cities for the Future" competition in 2017.
Geographic Information System (GIS) Application
GIS, processed by a separate BKOM department that deals with the inventory and management of, for example, roads, sidewalks, roadside greenery, entrances, bridges, drainage and sewage facilities, offers applications for both the general public and professionals (SITINFO, TEPAOS, DOPRAVA, KANALIZ, TECHMAP, and many others).
Traffic Information Center (DIC)
The DIC collects data and processes traffic information: road closures, traffic density, traffic accidents, traffic restrictions, and congestion in Brno, as well as 24/7 online viewing of traffic cameras. Information is downloaded from the Central Register of Closures, where road administration authorities are obliged to publish it. The DIC system is available on the website at https://www.doprava-brno.cz.
Central Technical Dispatch (CTD)
The CTD is a specialized BKOM workplace that, in terms of its equipment and focus, is among the best in Europe. It monitors Brno traffic 24/7 on roads, in Brno tunnels, in parking areas managed by the City of Brno, and in BKOM parking garages, and oversees all traffic-light-controlled intersections in Brno.
BKOM is involved in innovative solutions and participates in international projects. One of these is the significant pan-European C-ROADS project. Its Czech part, C-ROADS CZ, aimed to deploy new C-ITS technology (cooperative intelligent transport systems involving data exchange between vehicles and infrastructure) in real operation on designated sections of the Czech Republic's road network. The company entered this project with an in-city C-ITS technology solution, which is unique within the C-ROADS Platform. In the national competition ČDS&T 2019 – TRANSPORT STRUCTURE, TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY, SIGNIFICANT INNOVATION IN TRANSPORT, Brněnské komunikace a.s. received the award from the Association for Transport Telematics and the Czech Road Society for its implementation in the C-ROADS CZ DT2 project in the field of modern C-ITS systems.
